HDTV - Points To Consider When Buying High Definition Televisions

At some stage you will decide to upgrade your current television. The standard CRT TV s are incredibly good value at the moment but ultimately the manufacturers want us to buy an HDTV. They have put a lot of money into developing the technology and more broadcasters are starting to transmit high definition programs so HDTV technology will continue to be improved and support ed at the expense of the current systems going forward. If you watch any high definition DVD s or have a home theater you probably want to be thinking about an HDTV to get the best experience from these systems. This article will outline some important points when buying an high definition television. The two most important considerations when looking at HDTV are not really technical at all. The first consideration is the price. You can get some pretty expensive models that have lots of features that you may never notice or use. Set your price range before you go shopping and stick to it no matter how appealing a TV out of your budget may look. The good news on this point is that the price for HDTV technology is dropping all the time so if you are prepared to bide your time you may be able to get better model. The second consideration is the size of the TV screen. You might think bigger is better but this is not strictly true. A recommended guideline for the screen size is determined by the distance you are planning to sit from the TV divided by 2.5. It is important to be aware of the layout of the viewing area before buying a TV. The focal point of the room will be the TV with chairs, sofas or recliners positioned around it. Make your calculation of the screen size based on the seating directly in front of the screen as this will be the best viewing position and will probably be used the most. The next consideration is to check that the high definition television will be compatible with your existing audio visual components. Confirm that the TV will receive and be compatible with the standard NTSC or PAL broadcasts. Check that the HDTV has the required connections for you existing DVD and VCR players/recorders. If you have a A/V receiver or speakers then check that the TV will have the required number of connections. If you are hoping to watch high definition broadcasts then check that there is a broadcaster nearby. You may need to buy a special antenna if there is no broadcaster near to you. Finally, work out what you are most likely to use the HDTV system for. For example, if you want higher resolution you want to go for an LCD TV. If you want a wide viewing angle then a CRT system is better. If you cherish space in the room then a flat panel TV like a plasma or LCD might be the go. If you want a really wide screen viewing experience then a rear projector system might be the option. Working out some of these details can help you to be more informed and get a better solution for your entertainment needs if you are thinking of buying an high definition television. 8 Tips for Protecting a Digital Camera s Memory Card

8 Tips for Protecting a Digital Camera s Memory Card It s Monday evening, you ve made it through the first day back into your routine after a much needed and memorable vacation. You pull out the memory card from your digital camera thinking you ll download the photographs that record the spectacular sights, reunions with seldom seen loved ones, and memorable events that you experienced in the previous days. But then the unthinkable happens. With your digital camera in hand you connect to the PC but the photographs can not be retrieved; they are lost. What could cause such a catastrophic failure and more importantly, how could a repeat of this scenario be avoided? The way that memory cards for your digital camera are handled, used, and stored can greatly influence the length of their useful life and dependability. Observing a few precautions can be the difference between the disappointment of lost images and the pleasure of having pictures with which to reminisce. Avoid physically damaging memory cards: • avoid exposure to direct sunlight and temperature extremes • protect memory cards from exposure to moisture and store in a low humidity environment • do not write or put stickers on the cards • store cards in a protective case or leave them in the camera to avoid accidentally breaking them or getting dirt or dust on them Protect memory cards through proper use: • keep the batteries of the digital camera fully charged to assure they don t fail while shooting pictures as a failure may result in lost images and permanent damage to the card • be sure data has been saved, the process completed, before removing the card from the camera or card reader; it s best to turn the digital camera off before removing the card • move images to the computer to edit rather than editing photos on the card itself • delete images and re-format the card in the digital camera after downloading on a regular basis Although the failure of a digital camera s memory card is a rare occurrence, the results can feel tragic nonetheless. Observing manufacturer s guidelines and some of the precautions reviewed above can help to circumvent the unnecessary loss of photographs. Difference Between 1080i And 1080p

When you are selecting a high definition TV (HDTV) there are a number of factors you have to consider. Some things you might consider are : do you like the look of the TV, will it fit into your room and then a lot of technical stuff that might make you eyes glaze over or might really interest you. This article will explain some of the technical details, specifically the picture resolution and the way the picture is produced on the screen. Picture resolution and scanning are neatly summed up by numbers like 1080i and 1080p. We will discuss what these numbers mean, some other types of picture types available and the difference between 1080i and 1080p. The 1080 bit refers to the picture resolution. Both 1080i and 1080p have the same picture resolution. This means there are 1920 pixels of the image down the screen and 1080 pixels across the screen. This equates to 1920 x 1080 pixels on the screen in total. For some reason the industry only uses the number of pixels across the screen as a indication of the picture resolution. 1080 picture resolution is the best you can get at the moment. Other types of resolution are 720p (1280 x 720), 480p (720 x 480) and 480i (640 x 480). The i and p bit indicate the way the image is put on the screen or the scan type. The i stands for interlaced. Interlaced scanning is an older method of putting the picture onto the screen. It is more common in older style CRT TVs. The p stands for progressive and is the modern way to put the picture on the screen. The picture comes on the screen very quickly but the progressive technique is smoother and less flickery than the interlaced method. Thus it is claimed that the picture will be better using the progressive method although it is hardly noticeable to the eye. It may also be better for fast paced action movies or rapid changes to the image but, again, it is debatable whether the eye will pick up on this. 1080p is the best you can get at the moment in terms of latest technology. It will allow you to get the most out of the next generation DVDs, blu ray and HD DVD. 1080i is the current best standard for HD broadcast television. Thus 1080i and 1080p simply mean how clear the picture will be on the screen and how quickly the picture is put on the screen. Electronics Show Influences Still Reverberating

The CES (International Consumer Electronics Show) for this year may be over, but its after effects are still reverberating around the blogosphere and beyond. Electronic giants, Media conglomerates, Satellite Television Companies, HDTV (High Definition Television) manufacturers and everyone else in the digital universe attend the CES. The CES is the premier location for them to show their wares. How we sit on the cusp of the transition from an analog to a digital world was one of the big topics explored this year. From the popularity of all-digital Satellite Television, digital video cameras and the newest digital televisions, we see proof that the transition is very real. Monumental changes are happening in the entertainment world. Mobile TV or streaming video on the handset or cellular phone was another one of the stars at the CES. Another topic was the fact that consumers are purchasing, recording, saving, using, moving and creating more of all types of digital media. The emerging digital lifestyle is changing all of the time and one way that companies try to get a handle on this shifting universe is doing research. One small, but very important method, is for the experts to actually come to your home! They call it Environmental Observation Research. They come to your home (with permission) and bring digital video cameras and watch you interacting with your digital stuff! They also conduct interviews and in general snoop around and try to discover all that they can about the home entertainment habits of consumers. Anthropologists call this ethnographic research and they do the same thing, except that they stay around for a year or two. Some experts in the industry are worried that consumers are falling behind in their knowledge of the new technologies. For example, many consumers confused HD television with Digital Television. Some erroneously thought that HDTV was coming in about two years. Plasma television was also a source of confusion for some—one consumer thought that he would have to spend 20,000 dollars to get a plasma set. Most consumers knew little to nothing about DVR technology (Digital Video Recorders). After they were told that DVR’s allow you to record and pause live television and replace and improve the old VCR technology, they could readily understand it. However, this research underscored the lack of information in large segments of the population. Interestingly, the researchers found out that every household has an unofficial IT manager, and they are the go-to person when someone in the family needs help and information on a new topic or device. I just bet you are the IT expert in your home, aren’t you? One of the largest lessons from the CEA: Back up your digital memories, files, photos, and videos… And do it now! This is a poorly understood and poorly actualized area. Most consumers just aren’t aware of the importance of backing up, and furthermore they don’t know the technologies to back up their files, such as burning data discs, having copies at other locations, and storing their information on the Internet. Do not lose those precious videos! You will find only the best Dish Network deals in L. Dixon s articles. Walking Boots: Ten Things You Should Know About Them

Buy the best you can afford. This may seem obvious, but this is not an area on which to be tight-fisted. When walking, your boots are the only thing that you will certainly wear l day long - and you get what you pay for. Having said this, don t let price sway you. Fit and comfort are the most important things - and a less expensive boot may be just right! Two-season boots are suitable for general country walking in Summer and Autumn, probably the most popular time for most people. They are usually lightweight and more flexible than you d imagine. In fact, some of them are just like wearing a pair of shoes but they do give essential ankle support. If the shop you re using doesn t know what a two-season boot is - shop elsewhere. Three-season boots can be used generally all year round for country walking and for high fell walking. They can also be used for mountain walking during late Spring, Summer and early Autumn but are perhaps not durable enough for Winter mountain work. Leather boots, which up to a few years ago were the only real choice for hikers, are probably more durable than boots made from fabric, although heavier, and good fabric boots are reinforced anyway. Many fabric boots are made of heavy Cordura nylon and have leather patches at wear points. Some (my own included) are also further strengthened with Kevlar. Believe me, durability of fabric boots today is not a problem! Too, many boots are now lined with waterproof membranes such as Gore-Tex, so soggy feet are a thing of the past. I would recommend a pair of lining socks next to the skin. These are thin, usually made of soft cotton or cotton/wool mix, have flat seams and very comfortable. Many people today think them unnecessary but I disagree - and I never get blisters! Then a good bet is loop pile socks over the top of these - they will cushion the feet and are supremely comfortable. Some also have reinforced and padded heel and instep sections that your feet will thank you for. Don t forget to wear them when trying boots on - it may seem obvious, but the obvious is sometimes overlooked! As to fit, boots must be wide enough so as not to feel tight, especially around the base of the toes. It s no use thinking that the boot will stretch to fit eventually - maybe it will but, by then, not only will its durability be affected but you will have had more blisters than you ever had in your life! When the boot is laced correctly, the toes should not press into the front of the boot when the foot is pushed forward, as it is when going downhill. This might not be a problem on a very slope but, if you re descending a mountain slope for three hours you will be virtually crippled by the finish. Of all the things to check on boot fit, this is probably the most important. The soles of the boot should also be considered. They must be flexible enough to accommodate some bending of the foot when walking, but not so flexible that they don t give your foot the support it needs. Three-season boots - the type I use all the time - can feel strange when first used as the sole has generally little bend in it and has a curve that gives a rolling action to your step. Believe me, once you become accustomed to this it saves a lot of effort. Always clean your boots after a walk - don t toss them into a closet and forget about them! Leather boots especially will repay a little care by giving you years of use. It s especially important to clean leather boots if you have been walking in areas containing peat - the acid present in the peat can rot leather very quickly. Wash them off, let them dry naturally and treat them with a special walking boot conditioner - not shoe polish. If they do get really soaked never dry them in front of a fire or on a heater! The leather may well crack and your boots will be ruined! Instead, stuff them with old newspaper and leave them to dry somewhere well-ventilated. When they re dry, treat them with conditioner before use. Fabric boots are easier to care for. Clean off any mud or soil and leave them to dry naturally, as you would with leather. Apart from this, treat them with a water-repellent spray now and again - if they are membrane-lined it won t make any difference as to your feet getting wet (they won t) but it saves the material from being always waterlogged and will extend the life of the boot. The above tips and pointers are based on my own experience of walking and hiking in the UK but should be applicable anywhere in the World. Steve Dempster is actively involved in running several websites and spends part of his working day creating short, informative articles such as the one above. Used RV — What Are the Real Cost Savings?

Used RV — What Are the Real Cost Savings? Nearly every RV buyer understands that buying a used RV can represent savings right off the bat due to the depreciation factor. It doesn’t matter what type of used RV you are discussing-every tent trailer to diesel pusher loses value as soon as it leaves the lot with the buyer for the first time. But there are some buyers that don’t value the savings as much as they value owning a brand-new RV. Are the advantages of buying a used RV really worth it for you? Taking a look at the NADA reference guide or Kelly RV Blue Book will give you a good idea of the types of savings you can expect when you go to a dealer or if you buy a used RV from a private seller. You often hear about the depreciation that occurs as soon as the RV leaves the lot. But, remember that this is based on the MSRP price and most buyers pay 20 to 25 percent less than the MSRP in their purchase price. However, a used RV does lose nearly 20 percent of its purchase price in the first year and another 10 percent the year after that. By the time an RV is 3 years old it has lost almost half of the MSRP value. This can mean much lower monthly payments on a used RV. But, you will also need to consider the cost of maintenance, repairs and storage. A towable RV and a diesel powered RV will have lower maintenance and repair costs overall than a gas powered RV. On a used recreational vehicle these costs will be a higher percentage of your expenses than on a newer RV. Insurance costs will be lower on a used recreational vehicle because they are based on the value and purchase price. They are also based on the safety record of the drivers. If you still prefer to choose your own features and you love that “new” smell, maybe you should buy new, but weigh your options before you buy. Choosing the Best Baby Nursery Themes

Choosing the best nursery themes from the large number of themes in stores can be a confusing task. There are so many decisions to make regarding the baby’s room. Along with purely decorative decisions, you must choose your style of baby furniture, wall decorations and the kind of carpet that will protect baby when he or she is taking those first steps. One of the easiest ways to start decorating is to go ahead, bite the bullet and decide on a decorating theme. Once you decide on your theme you will have direction for all aspects of the room. UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF NURSERY THEMES ? Think of your nursery as a storybook and the available styles of decor as the subject of that storybook. The similarities are that a book without a topic would be uninteresting and rooms with no obvious theme or decorating style would be just as unappealing. If you are still in the dark about themes, here are some examples. For a baby girl, some popular themes would be a western cowgirl theme or any of the Disney princesses like Ariel the Mermaid or Cinderella. Nursery themes for boys might be centered on popular sports like soccer, football or motocross. Then, of course there are decorating styles that would appeal to either sex like jungle or animal themes. TRADITIONAL BABY THEMES If baby kittens and rubber duckies don’t tickle you, don’t sweat it. A few years ago you might have been facing some difficulties with that attitude, but that day has passed. Modern nursery decorating trends have become so diverse that there are ideas available for every taste. Decorative motifs that might once have been considered inappropriate for nurseries are now acceptable. FINDING the BEST NURSERY THEMES Most parents have hobbies, occupations or passions that can be adapted for use as nursery themes. Agricultural minded parents can select themes taken from inspired by their favorite brand of farm implements. Bikers might select decorations sharing the logos taken from the gas tanks of their Harleys. THEMES or NO THEMES If the idea of decorating in themes is not appealing to you, that’s not a problem. The gratifying thing about decorating for the modern baby is that anything goes. The important thing is to have a plan of action for the design of a room that will be warm and welcoming. The ultimate goal would be a comfortable space where you can enjoy your baby. Soccer Team Position, Soccer Team Players Position and Set up, 5-4-1 Team Set up

5-4-1, Defense; 5, defenders, The addition to this defensive style is a central defender who can control the play from the back line. This defender could also be an attacking player who will feed through balls to the striker. In addition to this the play maker will help create and initialze an attack from the defensive edge of the mid-field. It can be thought that this player is also a mid-field player when the attack is mounted. This team has this formation of positions in order not to lose. They do not want goals scored against them and are usually willing to have a single goal scored for them and will to play for a draw, albeit 0-0. It is also possible that their goalkeeper is not the “best” in the league. It is possible however that this team has also been set up to play a strong attacking team. This would mean that the coaching staff has done their homework and scouted the opposition. All in all this team is more prepared to defend as opposed to attack. This team is an opportunistic attacking team and will usually attack against the run of play. This happens when the opposing team has made a mistake. This system and idea can also produce and utilize the positions and concepts known as “wing back”. These are the players who can make over-lapping runs from their defensive ends right to the opposing goal lines. When communicated properly the following happens. 1) A full on attack has been launched. At least 5 are attacking simultaneously. 2) The outside midfield has now become support, over lapping and or cutting in and out when and where necessary. 3) Positons have changed to reflect those areas (space) not covered. The attacking team has changed the zonal aspects and created a player mis-match numerically. 4, mid-fielders are usually arranged as outside left, inside left, inside right and outside right. The outside players are called, wingers or flank players and are also involved in striking the goal. This would make this line up have a possibility of 4 strikers at any given time. These wingers usually have the bulk of the running to do as they could carry the ball from the defending third and into the attacking third. This also depends on the team strategy as outlined by the coaching staff. The two inside midfielders are supposed to be the “play makers”. These are the individuals who are responsible for carrying out the plans the coach and players have designed and used as the methods of attack and goal scoring. These positions have traditionally played these roles. However nowadays the play making comes from anyone and sometimes all the players at any given time. These inside players have also been more defensive in their general on field play. This defensive idea is to stop the opposition from creating attacking options. This team will require a midfield who is willing to strike the goal at any given time. Usualy 2 of these players are latent strikers. They might feel confident that the defense is solid and willing to step up into the middle third of the field. They then work in unison with the striker/forward. This team is usually confident of their lone striker. The striker in this formation actually acts as a post-up player. This means that this striker usually plays with the opposing defense at his/her back. This player will try and stretch the defense, will receive the ball to lay it back to the oncoming team-mates to close the ground/space that this striker has created. The cycle continues until a good scoring opportunity has been formulated. Occationally this striker will turn and attack the goal when the timing is right. This is usually communicated to the strikers by their team-mates. However a great striker will sense these situations based on the run of play and the opportunities that this striker has created. Competitive Swimming - How To Get Started (From a Parents Perspective)

Competitive Swimming - How To Get Started (From a Parents Perspective) As a parent, I always want to challenge my daughter to stretch and grow beyond what she thinks her limits might be. Competitive swimming is one vehicle that has and will continue to accomplish this goal. I am not going to waste your time by listing all of the reasons why athletics in general and swimming in particular is beneficial for your child. I assume that if you are reading this that you have already resolved that and swimming is what you want to know more about. When our daughter was 8 years old, we thought it was time to begin to think about some sort of athletic activity. We choose swimming because our daughter tried out for soccer and had absolutely no interest in it. Wanting her to learn all of the things that sports can teach such as fair play, winning and loosing, teamwork, setting and achieving goals, and most importantly, having fun, we decided to check out swimming. That was all great, but where do we go from here. To anyone who is new to this sport, things can be somewhat confusing every step of the way. An easy to understand road map would certainly be a big help. If you are like our family was when we were first starting out, we needed a resource not just to extol the benefits of competitive swimming, but also to provide first hand information on how to get involved and realize the benefits of this great sport. We needed answers to so many questions, including but not limited too: *How Do We Choose The Swimming Program That s Right *How Do We Arrange A Tryout *How Do We Find The Swim Team That Fits Best *What Equipment Will We Need *How Much Swimming Is Enough *How Do We Enter the Swim Meet *How Much Will All Of This Cost We stumbled around, making phone calls, asking friends and neighbors and finally sorted through all of the information that was out there. Finally, through a business associate who s daughter was on a local team, we arranged a tryout and got our daughter going. Then the questions really began. The whole experience was exciting but there was so much to learn. Everyone kept talking about “Time Standards”, and “Meet Entry Forms”, and we seemed inundated with all of the new terminology. The veteran parents on the team were a big help in sorting through it all, but we really wished that there was some sort of new swim parents guide. There are so many great resources about this subject, but trying to do web search after web search can be quite time consuming. Like anything else, a sort of “beginner s guide”, from someone who has been through the process would be extremely helpful. We soon found that one of the most important functions that parents perform for their kid s team is to be a volunteer. Typically, swim teams have only a couple of paid employees and the club is totally dependent on parent volunteers. One of the critical duties is to help raise funds. With so much to learn and with so much that parents can do, we sat down and made a list of questions that we had needed answers to in the beginning and then tried to answer them. From there we put together a sort of how to guide covering everything discussed in this article, and more. We realized that a guide written for the new swim parent which was in a straight forward, easy to understand format would be most beneficial to our team, and to the sport in general. We hope that the information in this article has been helpful and will lead you in the right direction. We ll see you at the pool! European Cup Finals 1962-63 and 1963-64

1962/63 AC Milan 2 Benfica 1 Altafini 2 Eusebio AC Milan: Ghezzi, David, Maldini (capt), Benitez, Trebbi, Dino Sani, Trapattoni, Pivatelli, Altafini, Rivera, Mora Benfica: Pereira, Cavem, Raul, Cruz, Humberto, Coluna (capt), Jose Augusto, Santana, Torres, Eusebio, Simoes Benfica were looking to do a Real Madrid by winning 5 successive European cup finals and this was their 3rd final in a row, but they reckoned without the finishing prowess of Altafini and the creative genius of Gianni Rivera. Wembley Stadium was the host on a fine May evening on a night when an Italian teenager burst onto the European scene for the first time. Gianni Rivera had already made an impact during Milan s run to the final, but on this, the biggest stage of all, he reinforced his talent and lived up to the hype that he had received in Italy. He was the creative heart of the side, particularly in his understanding with Altafini ahead of him, and this relationship would prove particularly fruitful when it most mattered. Eusebio was finding little joy in the Benfica attack, but on 19 minutes he got his chance. Torres intercepted a pass from Trapattoni in midfield and when Eusebio was played in, he pounced to send a low shot onto the corner of the net and give his side the lead. Rivera was now finding space in the middle of the pitch and was orchestrating the midfield. On 58 minutes he found Altafini who swivelled and scored from 18 yards to bring the two teams level, and then just ten minutes later he found Altafini again who, despite Benfica s appeals for offside, kept his cool to slot home after Pereira had saved his first effort. Milan went on to hold on to win the European cup for the first but certainly not the last time. 1963/64 Internazionale 3 Real Madrid 1 Mazzola 2, Milani Felo Internazionale: Sarti, Burgnich, Guameri, Picchi (capt), Facchetti, Tagnin, Suarez, Corso, Jair, Mazzola, Milani Real Madrid: Vicente, Isidro, Santamaria, Zoco, Pachin, Felo, Muller, Amancio, Di Stefano, Puskas, Gento (capt) Having watched with envy as their city rivals, Milan won the cup, the previous season, Inter Milan were determined to win the cup for the first time to appease their fans at the expense of perennial finalists, Real Madrid. The Final was held in Vienna, which provided the fanatical Inter supporters the opportunity to travel in their thousands to the game. For the first time in European Cup history there was a mass movement of fans from one country to another as the Inter hordes descended on Austria. A crowd of over 70,000 with many thousands of them from Italy, crammed into the Praterstadion to see if the attacking maestro s of Madrid could outfox the young catenaccio kings from Milan on the biggest stage of all. The match itself proved to be the end of an era as Inter powered their way to the European title. Despite their defeat, Real Madrid would return as a force in Europe s major club competition, but the two men who had been so instrumental in the clubs success would never be seen in a European final again. Up against the dynamic efficiency of the Italian champions, Puskas and Di Stefano were no longer able to compete. Puskas found himself stranded up front, now totally reliant on the service from his team-mates, while Di Stefano was shackled by the Italian man markers and merely flitted in and out of the game. With Suarez running the midfield, Inter not only stifled their opponents, but also managed to puncture Real s defence on three occasions through Mazzola on 43 and 76 minutes, and Milani on the hour. When Real did get forward they came up against a tight and ruthlessly marshalled defence which gave them little hope of success. Felo did score acrobatically from a Puskas corner on 70 minutes and the great Hungarian did strike a post, but Inter s triumph was never seriously in doubt. Real s defeat brought to an end the glorious era of Puskas and Di Stefano. These two greats had dominated the early years of the European Cup and had appeared, on occasion, to win games for Real Madrid on their own. Snow Boots

Buying snow boots for children or for boys, girls or even for little kids? Good thing about snow boots is they don t differ much and have almost the common features as women s snow boots and men s snow boots. But you need to make a difference between winter boots and snow boots as they are worn in wet conditions too, unlike the former. Winter boots specifically cater to long time snow wearing in little wet or muddy condition and rarely offer features commonly found in snow boots. Consider the following points when buying snow boots. 1. Height of snow boots must be sufficient to prevent snow entry. Ideally they extend beyond ankles but usually above the pants hemline. Generally they are 7.9″ tall for both women and men. 2. The uppers need to have leathers or synthetic leathers with seams taped or sealed for wetness protection. Fleeced cuffs with or without drawcords prevent snow entry to protect from cold and frost bite. Alternately, North Face Boots and Salomon Boots have tested successfully with soft acrylic wools in place of wools. Sorel Boots offers vulcanized rubber toe and side covers. 3. Look for soles; 100% waterproofing needs to be the only invariable option. Consider ease of cleaning also, most of them can be just hosed off. 4. Check for the removable thermofelt inner boots which you may need for long treks. 5. Wear the snow boots before making the decision. Sizes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and from women s snow boots to men s snow boots. You need to be carefully even while changing your old brand; for example, Merrell Boots size may differ from others . Occasionally, uppers with full grain leathers are PU coated for water proofing. Don t forget to check for breathability by trying it before you buy. Best time to buy snow boots is early spring when the cold is still setting. The Globalisation of Golf?

The Globalisation of Golf? Golf is the most global sport. It is played in nearly every country in the world; its professional tournaments are contended in every continent and, unlike soccer, the Americans are pretty darn good at it. This makes for the highest profile intercontinental competition of all - the Ryder cup - whose power over the emotions of millions of transatlantic spectators is so great that it constitutes the only fortnight in a two-and-a-half year cycle that all Britons are happy to call themselves ‘European‘. Its so linked to a global view, in fact, that holidays are often built around it and even travel insurance is available which gives you a cash payout for a hole-in-one. Which is why it is a shame that the USA hosts three of the world’s four golf majors. Only the dear old Open Championship (won so memorably last month by Padraig Harrington in Carnoustie) lies outside of the States. The USPGA, won by Tiger Woods this week, is the fourth in the cycle, but of the three American tournaments, I think it should be the one to swap continents. The Masters, of course, must remain forever at Augusta: the beautiful course, so well etched into the imaginations of any amateur golfer, with its history and traditions (such as the Green Jacket), must forever host the year’s first major. And the US Open - historically set-up to be the toughest on the calendar with winning scores often above par - can keep rotating around America to provide the toughest test in Golf. But the USPGA hasn’t got the same history or reputation. So why not move it to another continent - or rotate it round two or three - to give this global game a global dimension at the very highest level? Europe has some of the best courses on the planet, but has never hosted a major. Asia boasts the fastest-growing golf industry in the world. And lets not overlook Africa, Australia or South America either, whose great players (Els, Goosen, Norman, Ogilvy, Cabrera) have graced our screens for decades. I watched the denouement of the USPGA last week on telly; but I’d rather it had had Table mountain or the Med in the background shots. Reactions to England s Exit From Euro 2008

Reactions to England s Exit From Euro 2008 I just happened to be watching Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports and Paul Merson was asked why England did not qualify from their group by losing to Croatia after been given a lifeline by Israel beating Russia. His response was to heap all the blame on the manager Steve McClaren. He stated that McClaren should have been sacked for using an umbrella when the rain was pouring. Paul felt Steve McClaren should have allowed the rain to pour on him as that would show that he actually cared what was going on during the game instead of worrying about getting wet. I do see his point as McClaren should not have been that concerned about getting wet as a matter of fact he should have been oblivious to the rain and should have taken a leaf out of his counterpart, Slavan Bilic s book by ignoring the weather conditions and fully concentrating on the match. He prattled on about the usual ” the premiership being the best league I the world” and he also suggested that Harry Redknapp should be given the job of England manager. I have to disagree with this assessment because it is1 of the reasons that England are in trouble in the first place because the assumption that Harry Redknapp has been relatively successful in the premiership automatically means the England job would be easy is just fallacious on 2 main counts. Firstly I do not think that the premiership is the best in the world as that comes down to personal taste and secondly, Harry Rednapp has never taken any of his clubs into Europe so how can someone that has not pitted his wits against European opposition on a regular basis be said to be an ideal candidate for the England job. Alan McInally suggested that the players do not care enough and that is why England failed to qualify, as they seem to give more for their clubs than they do their country. I firmly disagree with this view as it papers over the fundamental cracks and that is the fact that the players are not as good as they are always being touted. It is someone in denial that would come up with this excuse. If the players were as good as they try to make the viewers to believe then they should have qualified from that group. Ian Dowie suggested on Ford Football Special on Sunday that there is no difference between the way the coaching and training are done in Spain and the way it is done in England. I do not believe somehow that that is true as the way football is played on the continent is very different from the English approach whereby things are done at 100mph and very little emphasis is placed on keeping the ball and controlling the pace of the game. After the world cup pitted England against Ukraine, Croatia, Andorra, Kazakhstan and Belarus and some fans were immediately saying that England would have no problems finishing top of the group. This is just incredulous how arrogant some fans could be. It just been days since England s ignominious exit from Euro2008 qualifiers and some people have not yet eaten humble pie to realize that no nation has the given right to qualify unless you are the hosts of the competition, you have to earn that right. X Factor - Final Five Betting Preview

Out of 75,000 auditionees only five remain and are just a few short weeks from winning the biggest talent competition in the UK and securing a life changing record contract. After simultaneously laughing and cringing at some of the truly awful auditions and whittling down some of the finalists only there to make up the numbers, the competition is starting to get serious. If you are not familiar with the “X-Factor”, the premise is simple. Each week all the contestants perform a song live with the television audience voting for who they want to keep in the competition. The two singers with the lowest number of votes have to perform their song again before the judges decide which one lives to fight another day and which one has to go home and back to the day job. The main hotbed of talent this year has come in the “Over 25s” category, with three of the four original singers making up the final five contestants, proving that the great British public are not just interested in teenage pretty boys who struggle to hold a note. It would have been all four if judge Louis Walsh hadn t cruelly voted to send home the talented Maria Lawson in favour of the dire Conway Sisters who also hail from his native Ireland. The viewers vote is not the only way you can get involved as there are also plenty of betting opportunities to get stuck into. Here is a look at the final five contestants and predictions on who ultimately has that “X Factor”. Shayne Ward Odds: 10/11 The only remaining contestant from the 16-24 category. Shayne has been the bookmaker s favourite and hotly tipped by the media to win the competition since his confirmation as one of 12 finalists. However, it s not always that simple. Last year s rocker-by-numbers Tabby was favourite all the way until he eventually finished third and has since disappeared without trace. Shayne is a sort of poor man s Justin Timberlake. His fondness for hitting the high notes during live performances and his shuffling across the stage is wearing a bit thin. He peaked too early and his rendition of Daniel Bedingfield s “If You re Not The One” on October 22 has not being matched since. Whether or not he is as good as some of the other finalists makes no difference as he has that all important “teen appeal”. It has been suggested in the press that the singer, 21, may have a record deal lined up in any case regardless of whether he wins the competition or not. Andy Abraham Odds: 9/4 The show s underdog and the contestant with the most romantic tale of the X Factor to date. Andy works as a dustman in order to support his family and has only been singing on the local pub and club circuit for the last few years. He is arguably the most talented singer left in the competition and has wowed audiences with his smooth and soulful voice with perfect renditions of “The Greatest Love of All”, “Unforgettable” and “Me and Mrs Jones”. If this had been last year then Andy would win the competition hands down, but two words are likely to prevent him succeeding this time around – Steve Brookstein. Last year, with a similar heart-warming story to tell, Brookstein revealed he had been trying unsuccessfully to crack the business for years and the X Factor was realistically his last chance of making it as a professional singer. He beat novelty operatic quartet G4 to win the competition and had a hit record but has since sunk into obscurity. X Factor supremo Simon Cowell is keen to avoid a repeat of last time which will surely scupper Andy s chances of success. Which is a shame. Journey South Odds: 3/1 In what was a very weak “Groups” category, Journey South are the only performers with any real substance. The two brothers from Middlesbrough gave up their day jobs five years ago to make the journey south (geddit?) to London in a bid to find wealth, fame and glory. Brothers Carl and Andy have been the “steady eddies” of the competition so far, putting in solid performances of “Desperado”, “Livin On A Prayer” and “Angels” among others, proving week in, week out, they are genuinely good live singers. The duo have a cross-generational appeal which puts them in a stronger position overall than say, Shayne or Andy, and this could be the edge they need to win the competition outright. Brenda Edwards Odds: 11/2 The only woman left in the competition after Simon Cowell voted out his own act, The Conway Sisters, on November 26. Brenda has grown in popularity as the weeks have progressed and has proved there is more to her than performing motown hits with a sparkling rendition of weepy classic “I Will Always Love You”. There s not a lot to say about Brenda. Yes, she has talent, but does she have that “X Factor” that would elevate her from being a “good singer” to a best selling recording artist? Simon Cowell is not entirely convinced and while he acknowledges her vocal ability, doubts she could “sell a million records” and I tend to agree. Chico Slimani Odds: 25/1 With every mass talent search, the inevitable “novelty act” surfaces. However, Chico has taken this to an entirely new level and his 15 minutes of fame looks set to last a lot longer. The former goat herder, bodybuilder, hairdresser and goodness knows what else has scraped his way into the final five and has even performed his own instantly forgettable single “It s Chico Time”, out of tune, naturally, which is bound to be inflicted onto the buying public in time for Christmas. The joke became unfunny weeks ago, so why does mentor Sharon Osbourne persist with the wafer thin argument that he s a “great entertainer”? Surely his “appeal” is only appreciated by 50-something women who shriek manically from their front seat at a Chippendale s show making it clear they can supply their own baby oil? Oh. The rank outsider to win the competition, Chico s time on the X Factor is drawing to a close, although a lucrative career as a professional Reality TV personality awaits. Good grief. Summary Shayne does not represent good value to win the competition at odds on, especially if a recording contract is already a done deal. With every glittering performance Andy makes, the name of Steve Brookstein must be echoing in the judges minds while I don t believe Brenda and certainly not Chico have what it takes to win. That just leaves Journey South, the talented duo from Middlesbrough, who could well become Simon Cowell s second winning act in as many series of the X Factor and at a good price too. Fitness Apparel - Why Your Workout Clothes Matter

When most people decide to get into a fitness regimen, they are happy enough with themselves just because they got themselves to the gym or motivated themselves enough to workout at home. While that s a start, it s good to eventually focus on what they are wearing. Fitness apparel is a pivotal part of your workout. It s not about vanity or fashion! It s about performance. You would wear a ball gown to a ball, you would wear nice clothes to a fine dining restaurant. You wear casual clothes to a movie. So, why dress like we don t care we we are working out. If our health is a priority, then you should take it more seriously than any social outing. When you wear baggy (ill fitting) clothes, cotton, or something that has seen it s better days you will not perform as well because A) You can t move well and B) Believe it or not, you are psychologically affected by what you wear. Have you ever noticed how what you wear affects your mood? If you are uncomfortable it will show and negatively affect you. Your focus will keep going back to your clothes and why should you be focusing on your clothes when you are supposed to be exercising? When you are comfortable and have on the right workout clothes, your mind is where it should be-on your workout. You aren t soaking with sweat, your clothes aren t in your way and you aren t having to worry about something riding up. Some tips for women: 1) Stay away from baggy clothes. They aren t flattering and can make you look fat where you aren t fat. They also can be difficult to move in. 2) Steer clear of cotton. It s just a bad material. Cotton shrinks, stretches and is not dry-wicking , meaning that when you sweat, your will just be soaked. 3) Feel comfortable in sports bras, but be classy. We know that you have breasts, but it s not the time to show them off. Ladies, when you have a bigger rear end, it does no good to tie a t-shirt around your waist and cover it up. You aren t fooling anyone. If anything, you are just making it more obvious. There is a psychological thing that happens-if you can see the problem, you will be more conscious of it and you will have to do something about it. IE-Got a big butt? Do some lower body sculpting and cardio. You need to lose fat and sculpt the area. How can you do that, if you just pretend the problem is not there? If you will wear something that s not baggy, but also not tight, it will help. Men and women are different but men should also wear the right workout clothing. I know guys-you aren t going to put on the tight spandex, but you still need to be comfortable. Here are some tips: 1)I seem to notice that some men think that because they have their cool workout clothes on, they are getting a good workout. I can put on a soccer uniform, but that doesn t make me a soccer pro. 2) Most of the guys that I know who have been working out for a while (and have the results to prove it) wear something like Nike or Puma shorts (some kind of athletic wear) and either a dri-fit shirt or just a comfy cotton shirt. Some guys just feel not too manly in Under Armor and that is their right. Men and women should stick to workout apparel that is comfortable and lasts. Cheap clothes are cheap clothes. Don t get your workout clothing at Target. This is not an issue of taste. Nike, Adidas and Puma clothes last longer and fit better. There is a reason that athletes promote them and they are more expensive. Focus on fit, functionality, material and looks. Always go with Dri-fit . It literally wicks moisture form your body. Instead of being a sweaty mess, you will be dry because your clothes will pull the moisture away from your body. Workout apparel is all over the Net and you may have some stores in your city. But, if you don t, do not fear-Anyone who knows anything about shopping, knows to shop Online. Even though you have to pay shipping, you will have thousands of choices. Try for free shipping deals. Top 5 - Mexico Soccer Teams

Mexico hasn’t been very successful at national team level, since they only managed to reach the World Cup quarter finals on two occasions (both in World Cups held in Mexico). However, soccer teams in Mexico gradually became more powerful and today they are considered a force to be reckoned with in American soil as well as on an international club level. I was planning to make a top 5 of the Mexico soccer teams, but I decided against ranking them, because that might stir some trouble with the fans, such as a fan asking why is team over team in the ranking, since won more championships and so forth. Here are what I believe to be the most important soccer teams in Mexico, ranked by alphabet only :). Mexico Soccer Teams – Club America Club America was founded in 1916, being one of the oldest professional clubs in Mexico, although the first league title was not to be won until 1956-1966. They’re currently the owners of 10 national championships, being only second to Chivas de Guadalajara, who have won 11 titles in their history. The two are the most successful soccer teams in Mexico from a silverware point of view and Chivas is the historical nemesis of America, so a match between the two is a derby that the entire country awaits. Club America gets credit for discovering or highlighting players such as Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Enrique Borja, Carlos Hermosillo, Pavel Pardo, Zizinho, Claudio Lopez, Ivan Zamorano or Ilie Dumitrescu. Mexico Soccer Teams - Chivas de Guadalajara The club’s official name is Club Deportivo Guadalajara, but every soccer fan in Mexico knows them as Chivas (the goats). Their tally of 11 league titles makes Chivas the most successful of all soccer teams in Mexico, trailing arch-nemesis America by one title. They’re also very loved for their Mexican-only policy, in that they never use foreigners and focus only on local Mexican players. Their popularity reaches far beyond the borders of Mexico and into the United States, where a team called Chivas USA was formed. The Mexican Chivas have credit for launching players such as Salvador Reyes, Omar Bravo, Claudio Suarez, Juan Palencia, Gonzalo Pineda, Luis Garcia or Carlos Hermosillo. Mexico Soccer Teams - Pachuca Despite being the oldest club in Mexican soccer history, being founded in 1901, Pachuca has only become truly competitive in the past few decades. Winning the Primera Division 5 times in the last 8 years and the CONCACAF Champions Cup twice, in 2002 and 2007, Pachuca rose to become a force amongst the soccer teams in Mexico. The most notable players that got to play for Pachuca include: Jared Borgetti, Jaime Correa, Fausto Pinto, Damian Alvarez, Mosquera, Ivan Hurtado and Juan Arango. Mexico Soccer Teams - Pumas Because of the team’s close relation to UNAM, the largest university in Mexico, the club became known as UNAM Pumas, although their official name is Club Universidad Nacional A.C. Although the Pumas don’t have the same history as some of the other top soccer clubs in Mexico, having been founded in 1954, they definitely made their years of existence count, winning 5 league champs, 3 CONCACAF Cups, 1 Interamerican Cup as well as several smaller silverware. Amongst the players that wore the Pumas logo on their shirt in the club’s fifty-year existence, the most important are: Enrique Borja, Hugo Sanchez, Jorge Campos, Alberto Aspe, Luis Garcia, Esteban Solari, Emerson, Ailton da Silva or Dario Veron. Mexico Soccer Teams - Toluca Toluca was a force amongst the soccer teams in Mexico ever since the 1960s, having won 8 championship titles since then. Ever since Toluca’s founding in 1917, they have been known as an offensive team who throws their dice on the attackers, somewhat neglecting the defensive part of the game. This philosophy was a double edged sword, as Toluca varied between relegation places and titles in the 60s and 70s. Obviously, today this attacking mentality is a lot less noticeable and Toluca’s game has become more tactical. Some of the notable players that wore Toluca’s red and white shirt include: Enrique Alfaro, Zinha, Pedro Romero, Enzo Trossero, Dario Rodriguez, Jose Cardozo, Fabian Estay, Darko Vukic and Juan Antonio Pizzi. Niv Orlian is the author and the owner of a Soccer Fans website that provides information on various topics related to soccer. Did you find this article interesting, useful and well written? The Work At Home Dilemma…Should It Be A Job Or A Business?

The Work At Home Dilemma…Should It Be A Job Or A Business? So you have decided to work at home (either by choice or necessity) and now you are faced with the decision as to whether to pursue a work at home job or to start a home based business. That may sound like a minor distinction, but this can pose a dilemma as the differences can actually be quite significant. A general psychological characterization of the entrepreneurial spirit, says they are typically people who have a high energy level, set long-term goals, feel quite self-confident, and view money and financial security as a measure of accomplishment and piece of mind. They are further characterized as problem solvers, who take risks, learn from their failures (as well as those of others), accept personal responsibility, seize the initiative, and use all available resources to achieve their success. Entrepreneurs compete with themselves and believe that success or failure lies within their personal control or influence. They do not see setbacks as failures, but rather as learning experiences. Most of all, they exhibit persistence and tenacity, never giving up and never quitting the quest for success. If you fit most of these criteria, you would probably elect to start a home business instead of undertaking a work at home job. However, the decision to work at home does not necessarily mean that you want to be the owner of a business. You may prefer working at home for an already established company. This is often easier to do than owning a business yourself and you may not want all the headaches, responsibilities and obligations that come with owning your own business. Regardless of which path (job or business) you choose, the first step is to figure out what business or work-from-home opportunity you want to pursue. There are many excellent information sources such as public libraries and Internet sites that list seemingly countless home business and work at home job opportunities. The abundance is so great that it might well lead to confusion. One of the most important factors is often overlooked. This is your personal inventory. Often this will yield some direction and focus to the business or job selection process. Assess yourself and your situation. Write a resume for yourself that includes your background, education, training as well as any particular on-the-job skills you possess that could possibly be used in a venture or job. Also look at your leisure-time activities and hobbies, because many businesses result from a person following their “passion.” Ask yourself how much time you can realistically put into a business venture, given your present commitments. Once you have determined the general type of home business or work at home job that you want to undertake, it is of critical importance that you do your homework (research) to select the specific opportunity where you are going to make your “investment” (some combination of time, effort and money) in working at home. Kirk Bannerman operates his own successful home based business and also coaches others seeking to start their own home based business.
